Patty Olstad Aquatic Director
Carl Olstad Head Coach

Porter has been the Head Coach and owner of SWAS since 2010. He has swam 13 years as an SAAA swimmer and swam for Salpointe Catholic High School. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree with an emphasis on Marketing from Northern Arizona University. He has been the Head Swim Coach at Tanque Verde High School since 2019.

His certifications include:

  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR and First Aid
  • Safety Training for Swim Coaches
  • USA Coach
  • ASCA Level 3 Coach

He is a 4 time, All Sports Tucson Division 3 Coach of the Year and an AIA Division 3 Men's Coach of the Year (2021).

His favorite event to swim is 100 Backstroke.

Emma Munsch Assistant Coach

Coach Emma attended Salpointe Catholic High School where she is a school record holder and graduated from the University of Arizona where she was a Team Captain! She is a 2x NCAA All-American, Pac-10 and NCAA Champion and a 2x Olympic Trial Qualifier.

Her current qualifications include:

  • American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR and First Aide
  • Safety Training for Swim Coaches
  • USA Coaching 
  • NCFS Strength and Conditioning and Personal Training

She has 11 years of coaching experience and her favorite part of coaching is watching swimmers see their hard work payoff and helping kids learn to overcome hard things.

Her favorite event to swim is the 50 Freestyle. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and dog, reading and being outdoors!

Steve Wyatt Assistant Coach

Coach Steve started swimming at the age of 7. He attended Estancia High School where he swam for the Water Polo and Swimming team. He advanced to collegiate Water Polo and Swimming with a scholarship to Orange Coast Junior College and the University of Arizona where he was an All American.  He was a High School volunteer swim coach and also coached youth soccer and softball!

His current certifications include:

  • American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid
  • Safety Training for Swim Coaches

What Steve loves most about coaching is relaying information that inspires athletes to be the best they can be, stroke technique, setting goals with the athletes and helping them achieve those goals.

His favorite event to swim is the 50 Freestyle. For fun, he enjoys fishing, hunting, surfing and woodworking!

Zachary Duerkop Coach In Training (CIT)

Zach has swam for SWAS for 7 years, coached for 2 years and will be a senior this coming school year! He has competed at both State and Sectionals for competitve swimming.

He is a Junior USA swimming coach and his current certifcations include:

  • American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid
  • Concussion Protocol
  • Safety Training for Swim Coaches

His favorite part about coaching is making a positive impact on kids lives, watching them improve in and out of the pool and overall just having a good time.

His favorite events to swim are the 100 and 200 Breaststroke. He enjoys playing guitar and calisthenics.

Michelle Anderson Assistant Coach

Michelle swam synchro in her youth. She was a Junior Olympic in 1986 and went to Regionals and State for synchro. She has been coaching with SWAS since 2020. 

Her current certifications include:

  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR and First Aid
  • Safety Training for Swim Coaches
  • USA Coach
  • USA Stroke and Turn Official

She currently coaches our swim lessons, pre-team and adult aqua fit classes! She is enjoying continuing her coaching education!

Kathryn Baker Coach In Training (CIT)

Kathryn has been competitively swimming since she was 5 years old! She has swam with SWAS for 5 years. She attended Cienega High School and swam all four years. She has been accepted into the College of Nursing program at the University of Arizona and will start this coming fall!

Her current certifications include:

  • Safety Training for Swim Coaches

This will be her first year coaching with SWAS and she is looking forward to seeing the kids progress throughout the season.

Her favorite event to swim is 50 Freestyle. She enjoys spending time outside, traveling and being with her friends and family!

Regan Beagle Assistant Coach

Regan attended Liberty North High School and graduated from Missouri State with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and will be attending the University of Arizona for her Masters in Educational Leadership.

She began swimming for the Liberty Storm Summer League Swim Team and then started swimming year round for the Tsunami Swim Team of Kansas City. She swam all four years on varsity for Liberty North High School in Missouri.

  • Safety Training for Swim Coaches
  • USA Coaching

She was an assistant coach for two years for Clayview Swim Team. She is the current assistant coach for Tanque Verde High School Varsity swim team, assistant coach for SWAS and has taught swim lessons for the past 8 years.

What Regan loves most about coaching is the ability to see swimmers achieve their goals and see their confidence in themselves grow.

Her favorite event to swim is distance freestyle. In her free time, she enjoys being outdoors, traveling and swimming with our Master's program!

JB Yewell Assistant Coach

Coach JB went to Canyon Del Oro High School and attended Northern Arizona University College and Grand Canyon University. He has been the Head Coach at Canyon Del Oro Highschool since 2018 and was the assistant coach at FAST from 2018-2020 and 2023.

He joined his first swim team when he was 6 years old and continued to swim competitvely for the next 12 years competing on state and sectional stages. His proudest moment was swimming the backstroke leg of a state runner up relay team his senior year in High School - the team that beat them had a swimmer who competed in the 2000 Summer Olympics.

His current certifications include:

  • USA Coach

What JB loves about coaching is the relationships he gets to form with his swimmers!

His favorite event to swim is 100 backstoke. His favorite event to coach and watch is 200 freestyle. By day, he is a licensed therapist, specializing in adolescent to young adult mental health. He enjoys spending time with his family and two chocolate labs along with listening to swim podcasts, reading the news on SwimSwam or searching for any swim meet he can find on ESPN+ or USA Swimming!

Jackson Machamer Coach In Training (CIT)

Jack has been swimming with SWAS for 3 years and currently attends Tanque Verde High School where he also swims.

His current certifications include:

  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR and First Aid
  • Safety Training for Swim Coaches

His favorite part about coaching is being able to apply first hand knowledge and expertise to his groups!

His favorite events to swim are the 1650 Freestyle and the 200 Freestyle.

Jameson Cione Coach In Training (CIT)

Coach Jameson swam from ages 7-13. He attended State and Junior Olympics multiple times and won 1st and 3rd place high point in SAAA Championships! He recently graduated from Salpointe Catholic High School and will be attending the University of Arizona in the fall.

His current certifications include:

  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR and First Aid
  • Safety Training for Swim Coaches

This will be his first year coaching for SWAS! He loves being around the kids and helping them grow. He loves the balance coaching brings between having fun and working hard.

His favorite event to swim is 100 Breaststroke. For fun, he enjoys fishing, hiking, camping and attending his church youth group!

Adrianna Witte Coach In Training (CIT)

Adrianna has been swimming with SWAS since 2023. She attends Tanque Verde High School and swims on the varsity team as well.

Her current certifications include:

  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR and First Aid
  • Safety Training for Swim Coaches

Her favorite part about coaching is working with the kids! 

Her favorite events to swim are 100 Breaststroke and 100 butterfly.

Emily Nielsen Coach In Training (CIT)

Emily is a Junior at University High School. She has been swimming SAAA for 11 years, has been a SWAS Gator for 10 years and has swam USA for 4 years.

Her current certifications include:

  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR and First Aid
  • Safety Training for Swim Coaches

This is Emily's first year coaching for SWAS. What she loves most about coaching is seeing swimmers get more confident in the pool.

Her favorite event to swim is the 500 freestyle and 1650 freestyle.
